5 scientists receive PRL’s Dr Vikram Sarabhai Research Awards

Five scientists from across the country working with different research institutions have bagged the Shri Hari Om Ashram Prerit Dr Vikram Sarabhai Research Awards and PRL Award for 2011. The awards have been announced by the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad.
These scientists have been chosen for their research work in the fields of Space Sciences, Space Applications, Electronics, Informatics, Telematics and Automation and Systems Analysis or Management, including non-linear, non-equilibrium systems in natural and social sciences and technology.
Prof Tarun Souradeep from Inter University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune and Dr Biswajit Paul from Raman Research Institute, Bangalore will be sharing the award in area of Space Science. Dr NR Patel from Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun has been chosen for his work in Space Application.
Dr Ashwin Gumaste from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, is selected for his work in Electronics, Informatics, Telematics & Automation area. Dr Vineet K Gahalaut from National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad will also be feted with the PRL Award.
Prof Tarun Souradeep is working with Inter University Centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune. His work is related to the area of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy and polarization.
Dr Biswajit Paul is associated with Raman Research Institute, Bangalore and he is working on rotating neutron stars and black holes in our galaxy and its satellites, Paul’s favourite are the X-ray stars. He is also working as a co-editor of the COSPAR publication Advances in Space Research and Scientific Editor of the journal Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Dr NR Patel is working with Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun. He has been selected for the award in the Space Application area and usage of Remote Sensing for studying agro-meterology
Dr Vineet K Gahalaut who is associated with National Geophysical Research Institute, Hyderabad will receive the award for his work in the field of Earth and Planetary Systems and his outstanding work using GPS system to understand the processes of crustal deformation and occurrence of earthquakes.
Dr Ashwin Gumaste is working with Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai. He has been chosen for the award for the area of Electronics, Informatics, Telematics & Automation.
